Paul Curry has appeared in Guelph criminal court via video link multiple times since his arrest a month ago.
Most recently he briefly appeared via video link from Maplehurst Correctional Complex on Feb. 23, but the case was put over until March 1. Curry is facing two charges of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.
In November, officers from the Guelph Police Service began an online child pornography investigation that was later turned over to the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit.
Curry’s arrest came after a search warrant was conducted at a home on Union Street in Fergus on Jan. 25.
Several hours later, the home was the scene of a fire, during which a 65-year-old woman was rescued and taken to hospital. No update on her condition was available as of deadline.
Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton said at the time that “multiple fires” in the building were being treated as “suspicious.”
Police said on Feb. 23 the investigation is still ongoing but no charges have been laid.
